Ordering a birth, death, or marriage certificate
We can supply official births, deaths and marriage certificates for events that have occurred in Edinburgh from 1855.
We can also issue certificates for these events registered elsewhere in Scotland prior to 2019 only.
A person who has been adopted in Scotland must contact National Records of Scotland.
Fees
The statutory fee for a certificate is £15. If ordering two or more of the same certificate, the first certificate will cost £15 and each additional copy will cost £10.
If you are applying within one month of the date of registration then the fee is £10.
Processing time
We aim to process any certificates within 15 working days.
Postage
Your certificate will be sent by UK standard first class post or UK standard Airmail to the address provided.
Your responsibilities under Data Protection laws
Under the General Data Protection Regulation, Data Protection Act 2018 and the Human Rights Act 1998 the contents of any certificate containing personal data about any living individual should not be reproduced without obtaining the permission of those individuals first.
