Pre-employment checks
As a successful candidate you'll receive an email with a link to your conditional offer letter which you'll be asked to accept or decline. Once the offer is accepted, HR and the recruiting manager will start your pre-employment checks.
References
References are requested so we can have objective, verifiable information to support appointment decisions. We will always ask for these from the referee and not from you.
External candidates
- For permanent, temporary, casual and volunteer appointments, we require a minimum of two written references. At least one referee must be from your current or most recent employer.
- If you’re not currently in employment, or your last employer cannot provide a reference because the organisation no longer exists, then a character reference can be accepted.
- If you’ve just left school, the reference could be from your head or guidance teacher.
Internal candidates
- In most cases no reference is required. However, references (two of them) will be requested for posts that are regulated by the SSSC or Care Inspectorate or if a new PVG membership check is required for your new post.
Checks
- Candidate completes PVG application and Criminal convictions self-declaration form (where applicable).
- Candidate provides right to work documents, qualifications, and driving permits (where applicable).
- Roman Catholic Schools only - candidate must request approval from a Bishop to teach at a Roman Catholic school once the conditional offer's accepted.
Medical report
HR will send successful candidates a medical health questionnaire to complete.
A candidate cannot start their employment with the Council until all relevant pre-employment checks are complete.
