Community Council Elections – Nominations now open
Notice of Community Council Election 2025
Download a nomination form (or a Local Interest Group Nomination Form) and return completed forms by
- email to community.councils@edinburgh.gov.uk (see tips below)
- post to the Governance Team, The City of Edinburgh Council, Waverley Court, 4 East Market Street, Edinburgh, EH8 8BG
- hand in to either City Chambers, High Street, Edinburgh EH1 1YJ or into Waverley Court.
Nominations close at 4pm on Thursday 27 February 2025.
Completing your nomination form
Tips
- ‘We being persons residing in and appearing on the electoral register for the area of’ – ‘area’ means the community council area that you are being nominated for.
- Your Proposers and Seconders must live in the community council area you are being nominated for.
- Someone may only propose or act as a seconder for one person.
- The nomination form must be signed in ink by all parties. We will not accept forms with typed signatures.
- You can take a mobile phone picture or scan of the nomination form (complete with ink signatures) then return it to us by email.
- We will let you know when we have assessed your nomination, advising if it is valid or not valid.
If you are successful, you will be required to sign a declaration of acceptance at the first community council meeting declaring that, having been elected to the office of Community Councillor
- you accept the office
- you undertake that you will fulfil the duties of office according to the best of your judgement and ability
- in doing so you will comply with the requirments and code of conduct set out in the City of Edinburgh Council Scheme for Community Councils.
Community Council election timescales
Here is a breakdown of the important dates
- Nomination period runs from 6 February 2025 until 27 February 2025. This is when you can nominate yourself to stand for election as a community councillor.
- Election date (if needed) will be 27 March 2025. An election will only be held in a community council area if there are more people nominated than places on the community council.
- New community council term will start on 28 March 2025. It will last four years.
Nominations are for the community councils agreed in the new Scheme for Community Councils and new boundaries which were approved by Council on 26 September 2024. These will take effect when the community council election process ends on 28 March 2025.
