Edinburgh's approach to a sustainable economy
We aim to achieve sustainable economic growth through investment in jobs. Our resources should not used up faster than they can be replenished and benefits should be shared equitably. We aim to create more opportunities to make our city fairer and more skilled and with a good quality of life.
We embed these principles into our economic strategy.
Sustainable energy action plan (SEAP)
Our SEAP sets out an approach to reduce carbon emissions through better use and generation of energy.
The vision is that Edinburgh will transform its energy use by
- reducing demand
- making more efficient transmission and use
- encouraging local generation.
These benefits will help alleviate fuel poverty and create local jobs and more sustainable communities.
The SEAP's target is to reduce carbon emissions by 42% by 2020 from 2005 levels. The most recent data, from June 2016, shows that Edinburgh reduced CO2 by 26.6% from 2005 to 2014.
We will lead by example and influence the actions of others for the benefit of residents, businesses and visitors. Our approach is to be clear and consistent about priorities. We want to work with partners to develop the strategy and action plan. We welcome your feedback on the plan.
