As the Portobello community is already gaining over 2,000 new homes, we should not be selling off one of the few sports facilities it has.With Scotland's obesity levels rising, we should be doing all we can to encourage sport and exercise. The 5 a side pitches allow for small groups to play, and the central location makes it easy to access.
We call upon City of Edinburgh Council to halt the sale of this facility and to use any influence they have with Powerleague to try and reach an agreement for keeping the space in use for football.
All options need to have been discussed with the local community and any opportunity to save the site for sport and leisure should be exhausted before homes are considered.
