Petition details
We, The Friends of Granton Castle Walled Garden are intent on saving the walled garden from proposed private development. We believe that the rare historical, social and environmental value of the garden should be opened up for uses which will benefit the well-being of the local and wider community. Our objectives are:
1-To have the oldest undeveloped walled garden in Edinburgh protected and designated as a Special Landscape Area in Local Development Plans
2- To have ECC enable a 'participation request' from the Friends Group, allowing the listed walled garden to be made accessible for the first time in ten years (Local people have created a list of ideas for the regeneration of the land and its sustainable use to benefit the health & wellbeing of residents in an area high on the index of multiple deprivation).
3- To have the council stop the neglect of this once pristine heritage environment now placed on the Alert List for the listed Buildings at Risk Register by Historic Environment Scotland, after concerns were raised about the garden's lack of management and deteriorating condition.
