Future of Powderhall Refuge Plant - Petitions (Closed)

Petition details
Residents near Powderhall Refuse Plant have been complaining about the smell coming from the site for many years now. A number of new residential developments have been built nearby so that the plant and railway line servicing the site are now very much in a residential area. The site is old, inefficient, wasn't designed for its current use, is noisy with trains coming in and out. Flies and the smell from the plant regularly enter flats and residents are finding it unpleasant and some are concerned for their health.
A new rubbish and recycling site in Millerhill is due to be operational in 2017 which provides the opportunity to decommission the Powderhall plant.

This petition a) calls on the Council to confirm Powderhall will be shut down as soon as possible after the Millerhill site is set up and make the necessary preparatory work for this now and b) in the meantime, put further measures in place to monitor and tackle the ongoing problem of the smell from the site.
