Roughly a month ago, recycling services in the Henderson Row area were dramatically reduced.
Previously, red (cardboard and plastics) and blue (paper, tins and glass) were collected fortnightly and food waste bins were collected weekly, with each household having their own bins they put onto the street on collection days. The council have now reduced this service to one small dumpster bin for glass, and one medium sized dumpster for all other recycling. For the whole street and surrounding area. Within days of being emptied, the medium sized dumpster is completely full.
Local people resorted to leaving their old red and blue boxes to be collected by the bin, which bin service personnel haven't collected. The result? Edinburgh's recycling waste is going into the main trash bins. So much for a green city.
Local people have contacted the council about this repeatedly (one person has contacted them 10 times alone), and no action has been taken.
Our recycling will continue to go into the main bins if Edinburgh council is incapable of collecting it.
Edinburgh Council, we challenge you to stand up to the values you supposedly hold dearly, commit to proper recycling services in our area and make this part of Edinburgh a truly green city. - Petition Status
