Holyrood Park has become increasingly popular during recent years for walkers and other recreational users as a fantastic and vast green space in the centre of the city. Currently there are times of the day where the constant flow of traffic in the park make it extremely difficult to cross the road safely. Unfortunately the number of vehicles using the park as a through-road has also increased in recent years. While it is acknowledged that closing the park off to vehicles completely would not prove popular to all residents, introducing more Zebra Crossings at various points around Queens Drive would make the space safer and more attractive for use as a recreational space. The following places have been identified as natural crossing points where Zebra Crossings are recommended:
• On Duke’s Walk at the Meadowbank Lodge entrance
• At the east end of St Margaret’s loch where there is a right turn up the hill to Queens Drive (accident blackspot)
• Near the roundabout at the Dynamic Earth /Holyrood Gait entrance
• Near the roundabout at the Scottish Parliament / Horse Wynd entrance
• At the Dumbiedykes play-park
• Near the roundabout crossing Duddingston Low Rd towards Pollock Halls of Residence - Petition Status
