Traffic Reduction on East London Street - Petitions (Closed)

Petition details
An increasing number of cars and commercial vehicles are using East London Street as an alternative to Leith Walk/Picardy Place. A large number of empty buses also use East London Street very early in the morning and late at night and the cumulative traffic noise is impacting negatively on residents. In the longer term it is questionable whether a major bus depot should continue to be located in a largely residential area. However, in the shorter term, other action is needed as the existing traffic calming measures on East London Street are not effective.
A petition has already been submitted seeking the removal of the historic setts from the central carriageway to help reduce noise. This petition is complementary. It seeks to persuade the Council to introduce one-way traffic flow at the narrowest part of East London Street only, between Gayfield Square and Annandale Street. All vehicles would be barred from entering East London Street from the Annandale Street roundabout. This measure would significantly reduce the flow of through traffic and therefore noise, whilst allowing the majority of residents, businesses and school traffic to use East London Street in both directions.
