Get started with a Friends of Greenspace group

Setting up a Friends of Greenspaces group

Look for people in your neighborhood or community that want to help improve your local park or green space. You can have casual meet-ups to get others interested. Try to gather a diverse mix of people so the group represents different voices in the community.

Aim for at least three people to form a steering group that will help guide your Friends of Greenspaces group.

Contact your Council Officer

The Parks and Greenspace Officer, Natural Heritage Officer, or Cemetery Team Leader in your area is your main contact for day-to-day issues. Keep them updated on what you're doing and ask them for help when needed.

You can also connect with local Community Councils to find more people interested in helping.

Set your group’s goals

As your group grows, think about what needs to be improved in your green space. You can do surveys or hold events to find out what people want.

Your group and a member of the Council should walk around the area and you can all help spot important issues that need fixing.
