We are at the early preparation stage for City Plan 2040.
Development Plan Scheme

Local Place Plans
Local Place Plans give communities the right to produce their own plans for the development and use of land. Planning authorities are required to take registered Local Place Plans into account when preparing the Local Development Plan.
Under Section 15A of the Town and Country Planning (Scotland) Act 1997 as amended by the Planning (Scotland) Act 2019, community bodies in Edinburgh are invited to prepare a Local Place Plan.
As per the statutory requirement of the Planning Act 2019, every local planning authority must keep a register of Local Place Plans.

We are inviting communities across the Edinburgh Council area to prepare Local Place Plans in accordance with Schedule 19 of the Planning (Scotland) Act 2019.

Self-build housing register
The Planning (Scotland) Act 1997 (Section 16E) requires planning authorities to prepare and maintain a list of people interested in acquiring land in the authority’s area for self-build housing, and to publish that information.
