The Improvement Service is a non-profit organisation that works to improve the efficiency, quality, and accountability of local public services in Scotland.

myaccount works by letting you sign-up online for free, prove who you are, and then access different online public services without having to create lots of different accounts.

Proof of identity ensures that you are a real person using your account and proves that you are who you claim to be.

If you have provided us with:

No Proof of Identity - you have supplied us with some personal details but have not yet verified them.

Partial Proof of Identity - you have supplied us with some personal details along with some other information known only to you and the organisation delivering the service so we can be more sure that you are who you say you are.

Full Proof of Identity - you have linked with Yoti, successfully applied on getyournec.scot (from 2024) or use the My Diabetes My Way service.

Please note :  you do not need to add proof of identity to your mygovscot myaccount to use parentsportal.scot or getyournec.scot.

Passkeys are a replacement for passwords that provide faster, easier, and more secure sign-ins to websites and apps across a user's devices. Unlike passwords, Passkeys are always strong and phishing-resistant.

Registering a Passkey with your mygovscot myaccount adds an additional layer of security that can help prevent unauthorised access to the account. When signing in to your account, you can choose to use your Passkey to sign in instead of your email address and password. Your Passkey is created on your smartphone (or other device) and authorised on that device when signing in.

First of all, please do not use a device that is used by other people for Passkey authentication. Anyone who is able to use that device could potentially use it to sign into your mygovscot myaccount.

  1. On the sign in page click on Set up a Passkey
  2. Sign in using your email and password
  3. Select the option onscreen to create a Passkey. For details on this process for different devices, please visit:

  4. When it has been registered it will appear onscreen. You can now use that Passkey when signing into your mygovscot myaccount.

Even after registering a Passkey, you can still sign into your mygovscot myaccount using your email and password, or using your Yoti account.

This is an extra layer of security that you can opt to switch on via your account settings.

You can choose between our Authenticator App, Mobile / SMS or e-mail as a secure method to receive an Activation Code when logging in.

It will keep your account and personal information as secure as possible. Some services mandate the use of Two-Factor Authentication

You can cancel your account via the main page after you have signed in.

Once you have cancelled your account, it will be permanently deleted after 30 days.

If you wish to reinstate your myaccount within 30 days of deleting it, please raise a query with our Helpdesk and our team will be able to assist you.
