Council Leaders urge employers to seek financial support

Coronavirus update

Millions of pounds has been made available for businesses, charities and voluntary organisations in Edinburgh as part of the Scottish Government's package of measures to protect workers and economy.

As a Council, we will be administering applications from local business owners for the national Coronavirus Business Support Fund, which has been designed to help employers deal with the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

An online application form is available on our website for £10,000 and £25,000 in cash grants to help businesses which are financially affected.

Edinburgh charities, voluntary organisations and social enterprises which are at risk can apply for grants from the Third Sector Resilience Fund, which also opens today. The Fund will be delivered by Firstport, Social Investment Scotland and the Corra Foundation and applications should be made directly though these agencies.

Changes to non-domestic rates for 2020/21 have also been announced to support those struggling financially and we are working to implement these changes as quickly as possible. Local and virtual support has been made available through our Business Gateway Service and useful websites for business continuity are available from Scottish Enterprise

Council Leader Adam McVey said:

Our city's workers, volunteers and business owners are the beating heart of our City. The impact of covid-19 will be felt by everyone and measures are being put in place to protect those who are hardest hit. If you're an employer in Edinburgh and you're financially affected, please seek support to help your business or organisation get through this, to help look after yourself and the livelihoods of your workers. I’m strongly encouraging all those who can benefit to apply for this support and apply now.

Depute Leader Cammy Day said:

Supporting workers and following the latest national guidance is absolutely paramount for all of us. Across the city, all non-essential workers should be at home and staying home. There is no question that this is a difficult and anxious time for all employers but these measures are necessary. The health of the nation really is at stake. Please take steps to protect the health of your business or organisation too and apply for funding if you’re impacted.
