We’re delivering essential supplies of nappies and baby milk to families with children under two-years-old in Edinburgh over the next two days.
Hundreds of parcels, which will also include baby food jars, cereals and skin care products are being distributed across the city.
The families have all been identified by the Council as being in urgent need of support and contact has been made with everyone who is expected to receive a parcel.
The baby parcels are the latest in a series of measures put in place by the Council to ensure that families are getting essential food items. These include:
- Setting up a food distribution network in the Capital with EVOC
- Council teams packing and delivering food parcels for families every fortnight
- 300 parcels distributed to children under 5 years last week
- Free School Meal money being paid direct to families
Council Leader Adam McVey said:
“This pandemic does not discriminate when it comes to age – everyone from the very youngest to our oldest citizens are being affected in some way by Covid-19.
“Getting these essential baby supplies distributed to families is a clear sign of our determination to support all young people in our communities get the best start in life as we pull together as one in these challenging times.”
Depute Leader Cammy Day said:
“Many families are struggling financially with parents out of work so it’s vital we do everything we can to help and these items are going to support them at a time when they are most in need.
“We’ve put a huge amount of resources into helping families through Free School meal payments, emergency parcels and setting up the food distribution network with EVOC and the wider community and voluntary sector.”
