A new £10,000 fund to support ethnically diverse freelance artists and creatives in the Capital’s arts and culture sector has opened for applications.
The City of Edinburgh Council’s Diversity and Inclusion Collaboration, Research and Development Fund will focus on projects that support the independent sector and provide opportunities for partnership building. This grant programme offers funds towards developing new ideas and new ways of working.
Grants of between £1,000 and £2,500 towards joint project proposals are available to finance new work, develop practice or improve online presence. These will be awarded to ethnically diverse artists and creatives across art forms and practices, including visual and performing arts practitioners as well as media specialists.
Councillor Donald Wilson, Culture and Communities Convener for City of Edinburgh Council, said:
Edinburgh has a long-held and strong reputation for creativity and excellence in the arts and we must continue to identify new and collaborative ways of resourcing the sector.
Councillor Amy McNeese Mechan, Culture and Communities Vice Convener for City of Edinburgh Council, said:
This fund will help nurture new work and emerging artists and allows greater access to our funding programmes for previously unfunded groups or those who have found it difficult to access mainstream funding in the past.
Eligible applicants are invited to submit their proposals by 26 February 2021. The Culture Service team is hosting the fund information session on 21 January 2021 (12noon-1pm). More information surrounding this funding opportunity and registering for the online information session is available on our Culture Edinburgh website.
A Panel of industry specialists will review applications for grant awards in early March 2021.
