The City of Edinburgh Council has appointed an Interim Executive Director of Education and Children’s Services.
Julien Kramer will be joining from Bury Council in Greater Manchester where he is currently Director of Education and Inclusion. He has held similar roles at various other local authorities across the UK in an extensive career in education and children’s services.
He starts in May and will be with the Council for an initial period of six months while a permanent structure is agreed and implemented later in the year. He replaces Alistair Gaw who resigned in October 2020.
Councillor Ian Perry, Education, Children and Families Convener for the City of Edinburgh Council, said:
Julien has vast experience in education and children’s services, so I’m delighted with his appointment and look forward to working with him closely over the coming months to build on the positive work already taking place in Edinburgh.
Councillor Alison Dickie, Education, Children and Families Vice Convener for the City of Edinburgh Council, said:
These are unprecedented times for everyone, with particular challenges for families and especially our young people who have been out of school for so many months. It’s good to see that Julien has such a strong and inclusive vision for education.
