Stay safe in the sun

As the hot weather continues the City of Edinburgh Council’s Depute Leader Cammy Day is keen that everyone has fun in the sun while staying safe and respecting others and our beautiful city.

He said: “It’s fantastic that we’re experiencing such great weather, particularly while the schools are on holiday and so many families will be holidaying at home or in Scotland this year.

“Of course, we’re not that used higher temperatures here in Scotland, so please protect yourself and your family by remembering to drink plenty of water, use sun screen and wear a hat.

“We know our parks, beaches and other open spaces will be busier so please be respectful and dispose of barbecues responsibly and bin your litter or take it home with you. We’ve also opened all of our permanent toilets other than a few currently being repaired and we’ve installed temporary toilets in ‘hotspot’ areas. So if you’re caught short please look out for them.

“Please also bear in mind that Covid cases remain high in Edinburgh so I’d ask you to continue to follow the current health guidelines on mask wearing, hygiene and social distancing to help stop the spread.

“Happy holidays, everyone.”

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service has today issued a wildfire weather warning which covers Eastern Scotland. The wildfire warning remains in place over the weekend and you can find out more on the SFRS website  and Twitter and Facebook.
