The City of Edinburgh Council today confirmed appointments to two senior roles as part of its senior leadership team.
Councillors unanimously approved a report recommending the appointment of Amanda Hatton as Executive Director of Education and Children’s Services and Joan Parr as the Council’s first Service Director for Culture and Wellbeing at their meeting earlier this morning (Thursday 23 September).
Amanda is joining from the City of York Council where she is currently Corporate Director People, with responsibility for all aspects of Education, Children’s and Adult Social Care Services. She previously held the post of Director - Children, Education and Communities at the same authority.
Joan joins the Council from Creative Scotland, where she is currently Interim Director of Arts and Engagement and previously held the role of Head of Creative Learning and Young People in the same organisation.
Council Leader Adam McVey said:
I’m delighted that both Amanda and Joan’s appointments received unanimous backing from Councillors today. It was clear from the recruitment process that both were really strong candidates and their qualities, energy and commitment made them the perfect choices for the roles. I’m really looking forward to working closely with them to help us deliver on our strategic priorities and ambitions for the Capital.
Depute Leader Cammy Day said:
Both Amanda and Joan will provide great leadership in education, children’s services, culture and wellbeing. They bring a wealth of experience across many sectors and are joining us at a crucial time for Edinburgh as we work on a strong and sustainable recovery from the pandemic.
Amanda Hatton said:
I am very pleased and excited to be taking up the role in Edinburgh. The Council’s Business Plan clearly articulates a strong ambition to improve wellbeing and reduce poverty. I am very much looking forward to working with my new team to make sure all children in the city are able to take advantage of all opportunities to succeed and flourish.
Joan Parr said:
I am delighted to be joining the City of Edinburgh Council and I really look forward to working with colleagues to develop and strengthen the world class cultural assets of the city, particularly for the benefit and wellbeing of Edinburgh's citizens and communities.
Both appointees will take up their roles later in the year.
