This week, Edinburgh's work to bring forward a Hyatt hotel with the EICC won 'deal of the year' at the Scottish Property Awards.
Responding to the news, Cammy Day, Council Leader, said:
This deal is a success story worth celebrating and I’d like to congratulate all partners involved. The EICC’s programme and performance has been exceptional over many years and the economic benefits this brings are clear to see. Our new partnership with Hyatt is set to build on the venue’s achievements with a new hotel offering, in a way which will greatly benefit hundreds of our young people and create countless jobs in our communities.
For decades Edinburgh has worn the crown for warm and welcoming hospitality. And, as this sector builds back from the effects of the pandemic, we’re continuing to work hard with industry partners to support them and retain that reputation. Hyatt’s decision to open their first hotel in Scotland in partnership with us is testament to that as is the huge investment being made into other parts of our cityscape.
This includes, of course, the arrival of fellow hoteliers like the Virgin group – whose team must also be congratulated on a well-deserved win. Recognised as Scotland’s regeneration project of the year, Virgin has brought the iconic India Buildings back to life by sensitively returning them to public use. There is no doubt in my mind that projects like this and the hotel school will enhance our Edinburgh hospitality standard and I look forward to seeing that deal taking shape.
