Council Leader marks the end of LGBT+ History Month

Lgbt history month

February 2023 marked the annual month-long celebration of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT+) history.

Speaking on 28 February, Council Leader Cammy Day issued a statement of support to transgender and people of non-conforming gender that the City of Edinburgh Council supports and values them:

Edinburgh has always been a welcoming and inclusive city – and we’re rightly proud of our thriving LGBTQ+ community.

We’re approaching the end of LGBT+ History Month, an annual celebration and remembrance of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender history, throughout which the Progress Pride Flag has flown unashamedly above the City Chambers.

While we’ve undoubtedly made progress since Section 28 was repealed 20 years ago, sadly parts of the community still come under attack and it’s more important than ever to demonstrate our Capital city’s support.

I look forward to meeting with representatives of the Trans community in the coming weeks to discuss actions that we can take to uphold their rights and continue to support them in whatever way we can.
