A set of twelve ‘Season’s Greetings’ cards designed by Edinburgh pupils will brighten up Princes Street this festive weekend by being displayed on all digital bus shelter screens.
In a preview photocall today (Thursday 7 December), a group of the young winning artists will gather to unveil their designs at one of the bus shelters on Princes Street.
Pupils from schools across the city entered the competition to come up with festive designs. Winners attending the photocall today include: Archie (Kaimes School), Eilidh Angus (Braidburn School), Finn Robertson (Corstorphine Primary School), Josh Robertson (Corstorphine Primary School) and Ruva Nyamutswa (St Andrew’s Fox Covert RC Primary School).
In addition, the cards created by Eilidh Angus (Braidburn School), Sizar Omar (Braidburn School) and Archie (Kaimes School) have been chosen as the official Christmas cards for the City of Edinburgh Council, the Convener for Education, Children and Families Councillor Joan Griffiths and Executive Director for Children, Education and Justice Services, Amanda Hatton.
The Season’s Greetings competition is an annual event and this is now the seventh year that JCDecaux UK has offered lucky pupils the chance to have their designs shown on digital screens in Princes Street.
Cllr Griffiths said: “The quality of the entries was extremely high so it was really difficult for us to pick just 12 to go on the digital screens. All the entries deserve special mention and I’m delighted that JCDecaux have once again allowed designs to be displayed on the bus shelters in Princes Street.”
Lord Provost Robert Aldridge said: “Our young people are showing real creativity and artistic talent with these cards so well done to them all. It’s really exciting for the pupils and their families to see the designs on public show and they will definitely bring festive cheer to shoppers on Princes Street this weekend.”
Dale Armstrong, Senior Partnership & Development Manager at JCDecaux UK said “We always look forward to seeing the annual display of Season’s Greetings artwork on digital bus shelters in Princes Street, thanks to our partnership with The City of Edinburgh Council. This year’s entries more beautiful than ever and are a brilliant showcase of the talented young artists in the city.”
The designs will be displayed on all the bus shelters in Princes Street on Friday 8 December, Saturday 9 December and Sunday 10 December.
