Improvements to the road, pavements, crossings and cycling

Map of Lasswade Road resurfacing and cycle lane construction plans

Improvements

We are renewing the road surface on sections of Lasswade Road and Kirk Brae. The work will also change the layout of Lasswade Road between Ellen’s Glen Road and Captain’s Road.

This will make it better for walking, wheeling and cycling, in line with our City Mobility Plan and the recently agreed Our Future Streets circulation plan.

We will start work on 29 July 2024 and the project is expected to run for 15 weeks.

A summary of the work includes

  • Renewal of the road surface from Peveril Terrace to Captain’s Road
  • Pavement buildouts and raised side street crossings at Carnbee Avenue and Gracemount High School
  • The introduction of one-way protected cycle lanes from Ellen’s Glen Road to Captain’s Road where feasible

Keeping disruption to a minimum

Our core hours of work are Monday to Friday from 7am to 7pm. We would only need to work outside of these hours in exceptional circumstances and we will tell you if this needs to happen.

We will start work outside the main entrance to Gracemount High School so we can finish this section before the school restarts after the summer holiday.

We have been working closely with Kaimes Special School and it is highly likely that work directly outside the school will be carried out during the mid-term October break so there's no impact on pupil transportation.

Traffic management

Temporary traffic restrictions and management will allow us to safely carry out the work and keep disruption to a minimum. We apologise for any inconvenience.

Advance information signs will be installed ahead of the work giving specific dates and locations of temporary restrictions.

Bus operators have been informed and information on diversion routes will be provided on the affected stops and on their websites.

Emergency services have been informed and they will continue to have access the local community.
