New details revealed for the iconic opening of Edinburgh’s Hogmanay
The event’s house band, The Torches, and guest artists Clanadonia whose music features in Outlander and who have played major events from T in the Park to the Opening Ceremony of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, will then take to the stage in Holyrood Park to entertain everybody until the event comes to a finish with sparkling fireworks lifting from Calton Hill at 9pm.... Charlie Wood and Ed Bartlam, directors of Edinburgh’s Hogmanay said: “The Torchlight Procession is Edinburgh’s Hogmanay’s iconic opening event.... Paul Bush OBE, VisitScotland’s Director of Events, said: “We are delighted to be supporting this year’s Torchlight Processions, kicking off three-days of fantastic Hogmanay celebrations across Edinburgh and building on EventScotland’s long-term support of the event.

Capital agrees new powers to regulate short term lets
When there is a lot of pressure on accommodation in the city such as during the summer festivals and major sporting events the Committee also agreed that temporary exemptions can be made for all short term lets for up to six weeks in any 12 month period.... are in addition to new planning legislation which allowed Edinburgh to become the first short term let control area in Scotland... This means that the change of use of an entire dwelling, that is not someone’s principal home, to a short-term let will require planning permission.

Council approves next steps for BioQuarter expansion
Billed as Edinburgh’s Health Innovation District, the planned expansion would see more space for research and healthcare innovation, commercial use, hotel, gym, retail and leisure – with the long-term vision for the site now including plans for residential housing....
