  • Pupils' Christmas cards bring festive cheers to Princes Street

    In total 11 designs will be shown on the screens, with three of them - chosen by Education Convener Councillor Joan Griffiths, Lord Provost Robert Aldridge and Executive Director Amanda Hatton as their official Christmas cards - unveiled at a special event.... The Christmas card competition is an annual event but hasn’t taken place since 2019 due to the pandemic.

    This special day has been created to highlight the importance of animals and is timely given the significant financial implications that animal welfare charities are facing in the Covid-19 crisis due to falling donations, the closure of charity shops and visitor centres to protect staff and volunteers, and the cancellation of events.... However, donations raised from the sale of purple poppy badges will be used to make sure of the success of our event next year.”

  • Communities in Wester Hailes and North Edinburgh clean up over 125 bags of waste

    The weeks of action follow the success of a similar event in Craigmillar earlier this year.... These events are being coordinated by Places for People, Prospect Community Housing, and the Council’s housing operations team, supported by officers from waste and cleansing and parks and greenspace.

  • Jubilee beacon to be lit at Edinburgh Castle

    The event will see thousands of town criers, pipers, buglers and choirs performing, ahead of the lighting of more than 2,022 beacons throughout the United Kingdom, Channel Islands, Isle of Man, UK Overseas Territories and within the Commonwealth countries at 9.45pm.... The Beacons will enable local communities to join together and pay tribute to Her Majesty as part of the official programme of events.
