Report reveals impact of Coronavirus on poverty in Edinburgh
We’re absolutely committed to making sure this evidence shapes our continuing response to this emergency over the coming months, as well as the planning for how we will rebuild the city when this crisis has passed.... As we plan for Edinburgh’s recovery, we will continue to be ambitious and make sure our responses are guided by our long-term commitment to boosting sustainability, tackling poverty and improving residents' wellbeing.... East Craigs to become city’s first Low Traffic Neighbourhood
also influenced our plans for an LTN, along with the local school’s travel plan and traffic surveys of vehicle volumes and speeds in the area.... Any plans for a permanent LTN, as part of WEL, would draw from this, though further, significant consultation with residents would be carried out before any decisions are made.

Council re-examining two potential central Edinburgh sites for Gaelic secondary school
The Councillors wrote last week to the Cabinet Secretary following their meeting last month to confirm that the two central sites will be re-assessed given concerns about ‘centrality’ raised by some parents during the development of plans for the Liberton site.... In the meantime we are proposing temporarily halting the plans for a statutory consultation until we receive a response from the Scottish Government.... We’re fully committed to ensuring GME can grow and thrive in Scotland’s Capital and we have welcomed the Scottish Government’s continued encouragement about our plans for a new and dedicated school at Liberton.

More places to spend a penny in Edinburgh
At the same time as finalising plans to reopen the above existing toilets, Council officers are hard at work making final arrangements to safely install new temporary toilets in three locations as early as possible next month.... a plan for new and improved permanent public toilets across the Capital... On the basis that funding can be identified, the plan is to build new permanent public toilets in popular parks such as Inverleith and to upgrade existing facilities in premier parks to meet modern hygiene standards.

Our exciting and forward-thinking plans, underpinned by four key themes of quality, flexibility, accessibility and affordability, are transforming the early years learning and childcare landscape in the Capital.... Unlike some other local authorities Edinburgh started implementing the additional hours two years ago giving us plenty of time to take on board any lessons learnt and adapt our plans going forward.... Obviously, we will continue to engage with the community as our plans progress and are always wanting to hear innovative and new ideas.

Accounts Commission praises Council ambition and leadership while calling for more work to fulfil its potential and to deliver best value
It also states that the Council "must now put in place a long-term financial strategy and a more effective workforce plan". ... highlighted good leadership in the Council through its programmes to address poverty and sustainability and by making difficult decisions, such as approving plans for Phase 2 of the tram network.... We'll then draw up our detailed response setting out how we plan to use the findings in the best interests of the whole city.

Latest easing of Scottish Government restrictions welcomed by Council Leaders
Plans announced this afternoon by the Scottish Government for the gradual lifting of various restrictions have been welcomed by City of Edinburgh Council leaders.... Confirmation that all primary school pupils will return next week and that the current plans are for all pupils to be back full-time after the Easter holidays... Further plans for easing restrictions on the economy and tourism industry will be announced next week.
