OneCity is about creating a more equal Edinburgh through responsible business actions and active citizenship.
The Lord Provost is driving forward this city-wide initiative to make it easier for businesses and employees to be involved in responsible business activities. This is supported by the Edinburgh Partnership and Edinburgh’s Social Inclusion Charity, One City Trust.

Responsible business can be
- social – have a positive impact on communities, and promote social change
- economic – add to the economic development of an area
- environmental – improve your local community or reduce the environmental impacts of your business.
How to get involved
Every business in the city, no matter how small or large, or in what field or sector, can get involved. Give a young person an opportunity; support your staff to get involved in volunteering; offer your skills and experience to new start up businesses. Be creative.

Edinburgh Guarantee is one strand of activity to help all school leavers move into a job, training place or other positive destination.
For businesses
Our local Business Gateway team run free events and offers tailored services to help your business grow. The Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce is also a good resource for information and inspiring events. You can also read about the business benefits in the Responsible Business profile below.
The Scottish Business Pledge is a partnership between the government and the business community. The Pledge has nine commitments which can help you grow a sustainable business. These include paying the Living Wage and making a contribution to your local community.
