Additional Traffic Management Arrangements as of 31 May 2021

Weekly Traffic Management

Please find below a summary of additional traffic management arrangements to accommodate site investigations works and utility diversions outside the main area of works.

Traffic management arrangements for the main area of works are available to view and download.

LEITH WALK

Antigua Street - UPDATE Rescheduled 

We will be commencing utility diversion works at Antigua Street from Wedneday 9 June 2021 (previously Monday 7 June) for approximately seven weeks.  Parking and loading restrictions will be in place with egress from Gayfield Square changing to the north exit.

Jane Street – Pedestrian Closure 

The pedestrian crossing point south of Jane Street will be closed from Friday, 28 May, in order to progress with the track works on Leith Walk.


Brunswick Street – Pedestrian crossing move 

The crossing point south of Brunswick Street will be moving further south by Thursday, 3 June, to allow the construction of McDonald Road tramstop.


Leith Walk at Laurie Street - Footpath Closure 

The footway on the west side between Foot of the Walk and Laurie Street is currently closed.


Leith Walk at McDonald Road - Footpath Changes 

There will be minor adjustments to the fence line on Leith Walk at McDonald Road from Tuesday 11 May 2021 for approximately two weeks to accommodate utility works. Pedestrian diversion signage will be in place.

Leith Walk at Arthur Street - Footpath/Cycle Way Adjustments 

There will be minor adjustments to the fence line on Leith Walk at Arthur Street from Monday 26 April 2021 for approximately 3 weeks.  This is to accommodate duct installation works in the footpath.

Leith Walk - Cycleway Closure 

To progress the full length of the permanent cycleway from Annandale Street to Foot of the Walk, works will begin on further sections on the west side of Leith Walk from Monday 24 May. These works will require the closure of the cycleway for the full length of Leith Walk.

Leith Walk at Jane Street - Footpath Changes 

There will be minor adjustments to the fence line on Leith Walk at Jane Street from Monday 26 April for approximately seven weeks to accommodate utility works on the footpath. Directional signage will be in place to facilitate. These works have been extended due to complexity of the gas diversion works.  Further update to follow.

Manderston Street – Temporary Road Closure

Due to the complexity of the 500mm diameter gas diversion works on Manderston Street/Leith Walk the Road Closure on Manderston Street has been further extended into June.  Localised diversions and parking restriction will be in place with pedestrian access being maintained at all times.

Croall Place – Adjustments to Footpath

In order to progress the works and install the new drainage system the reduction of the footpath width and closure on the bi-directional cycleway at Croall Place between McDonald Road and the large digital advertising screen on Leith Walk will remain in place.


Shrubhill - Changes to Traffic Management

From Friday 18 June the turning lane at Shrubhill will be moved to the north end of the prioritised running lane between the carpark entrance and Shrub Place. This move will enable track works to progress.

 

FOOT OF THE WALK TO NEWHAVEN 

Coarfield Lane Junction 

In order to complete this section of works we are now required to extend the site at this junction as per the original plans which will require the install of temporary lights. These works will commence Monday 3 May 2021 and last until approximately Friday 11 June.

Baltic Street Junction – Temporary Traffic Lights

The carriage way at Bernard / Baltic Street junction will be reduced to one lane traffic, controlled by temporary traffic lights. The arrangements were installed on Wednesday 17 March and will be in place.  until the end of June.

Lindsay Road - Traffic Management Adjustments 

Traffic managements arrangements were adjusted on Monday 29 March to facilitate works on the south side of Lindsay Road. As these works are almost complete, from week commencing Monday 24 May the traffic management arrangements will flip back to the south side of Lindsay Road to allow the continuation of main infrastructure works. Old Lindsay Road remains closed to traffic, but is expected to reopen to local traffic in the coming week.


Traffic Management Adjustments at Constitution Street/Ocean Way junction with Tower Street

We will be revising the current traffic management arrangements at the Constitution Street/Ocean Way junction with Tower Street to include an additional traffic light head at Constitution Place, changing the current 3-way set up to 4-way. This will be in place from Monday 29 March to further progress the works in this area.

Mitchell Street – Road Closure

We will be closing vehicle access to Maritime Lane from Mitchell Street on Wednesday 7 April. This closure is to progress track works across the junction and is expected for up to 10 weeks. A  temporary pedestrian walkway connecting both sides of the street between Queen Charlotte Street and Mitchell Street/Maritime Lane has been installed and will be in place to facilitate the ongoing works.

Constitution Street – Changes to Footpaths

From Friday 7 May there will be new arrangements for pedestrians between Baltic Street and Constitution Place. These arrangements are expected to be in place for up to 12 weeks. Access to affected business will be maintained at all times.

Tower Street – Parking Restrictions and Temporary Lights

As restrictions begin to ease and traffic increases around the city, we are now required to reinstate parking restrictions on the south side of Tower Street. The temporary traffic lights will also be switched back on at the junction of The Shore/Tower Street.  These will be in place from Monday 10 May. As with all temporary arrangements attached to the project we will assess, monitor and makes changes where possible.  


Ocean Drive - Footpath Closure 

From Monday 24 May the footpath will close on Ocean Drive, this is to allow structural works on Victoria Bridge. Diversions will be in place for all pedestrians/cyclists. These arrangements are expected to be in place for up to 20 weeks.

Lindsay Road access to North Fort Street

Access to North Fort Street from Lindsay Road will reopen from Wednesday 2 June. Local diversions will remain in place for pedestrians and cyclists.


Iona Street - Road Closure

Iona Street will be closing from Leith Walk to the junction of Buchanan Street from Monday 14 June for approximatey 16 weeks for drainage system works.  Parking will be suspended for the duration of the closure with pedestrian access being be maintained.

OTHER AREAS 

Due to the complexity of the gas diversion works on Leith Walk as part of the project, the 4-way temporary traffic lights on Easter Road (including Academy Street and Tesco’s car park entrance) and 3-way temporary traffic lights on Bonnington Road at the Tennant Street junction will remain in place this week. Further updates to follow.
