A prejudice-based incident is one that’s perceived by the victim, or any other person, to be motivated by hostility or prejudice against an individual or group for one or more of the following characteristics or presumed characteristics
- age
- disability
- gender identity
- race
- religion or belief
- sex
- sexual orientation.
While not an exhaustive list, examples of what's unacceptable behaviour may include
- threatening, aggressive or challenging behaviour
- verbal abuse
- causing harassment, alarm or distress
- criminal damage or graffiti
- theft
- physical assault
- sexual harassment.
Why it's important to report prejudice-based incidents
We’re committed to building a more inclusive culture which values and celebrates the diverse nature of our workforce. All of our colleagues are entitled to be treated with dignity and respect in the workplace. We will not tolerate harassment, bullying, discrimination or abuse in any form.
It's important that we record information about this type of behaviour, so that we can build a picture of where, when and what is happening. Understanding the nature, frequency and location of incidents will allow us to target our efforts to support colleagues and send clear messages about what is and isn't acceptable behaviour.
