Improving Edinburgh neighbourhoods

The MTIS service

We created our Mixed Tenure Improvement Service (MTIS) to repair buildings which have shared ownership between the Council and private owners. These buildings are generally blocks of flats or tenements which need significant repair work and are known as ‘mixed tenure blocks’.

Our aim is to restore the buildings to a good state of repair to

  • make people’s homes safer, warmer and more comfortable
  • improve the quality of life for people living in them
  • improve the overall environment of the local area
  • stop further deterioration of homes.

The work needed for each building is different but can include

  • roof repairs and replacements
  • window and door replacements
  • chimney repairs
  • external wall insulation
  • render repairs
  • painting common areas such as stairs, drying rooms or bin stores
  • concrete repairs
