Project Update - Sections 1 and 3, August 2022

Progress update and plans for sections one and three of the CCWEL

Work is well underway on the CCWEL project with new cycleways, wider pavements and more crossing points taking shape throughout the route.

Section 1 – Roseburn to Haymarket

In our previous update we informed you that work to install the new cycleway on the north side of Roseburn Terrace (between Roseburn Cliff and Roseburn Street) was postponed so the street could operate as usual during the summer period. We will now commence work on this section on 5 September and finish before 2 December 2022.

During these works, loading bays will be available on Roseburn Gardens, Roseburn Street, and Murrayfield Place and these will have trolleys available for the movement of goods to respective properties/businesses. Also the short stay car park at Roseburn Maltings will be available for shoppers.

The re-commencement of works on Roseburn Terrace will coincide with completing our work on the junction of Roseburn Gardens with Roseburn Terrace. This will allow westbound traffic on Roseburn Terrace to enter Roseburn Gardens from week commencing 5 September onwards.

We are also making good progress on widening pavements and new crossings on Roseburn Street, Russell Road and Roseburn Place, completing in October 2022. We have recently started work on Murrayfield Avenue and will shortly be moving into Murrayfield Place and Roseburn Gardens for the rest of this year.

Construction of the cycleway on Haymarket Terrace will start January 2023.

Section 3 - St Andrew Square to York Place

The third section of the project involves building a cycleway from the top of Leith Walk along York Place and Queen Street and then up North St David Street to St Andrew Square. Work will start on 5 September with a week of nightshift (19:30 to 05:30) and then will move to dayshift. Initially work will be on Queen St and North St David Street with us moving onto York Place in the new year.

Working with you to reduce disruption

Unfortunately, some disruption and noise is inevitable, but we will work with you to reduce the impact of the works as much as possible. Our plans have been co-ordinated with other ongoing works in the area and this will continue throughout the project. Safety is our priority During construction, pedestrian and traffic management measures will be installed and maintained to make sure the work is carried out safely, including residents, businesses and our workforce.

Temporary bus stop closures

To carry out the work safely we need to temporarily suspend the bus stops on both sides of North St David Street for three months from September to December. Please see the Lothian Buses website for further information for alternative bus stops. www.lothianbuses.com
