Melville Street and Queensferry Street
Work is progressing around Melville Street and Queensferry Street in July and August. As always, we appreciate that this work is disruptive, and we thank you for your cooperation and patience.
Stafford Street closure
We will close Stafford Street for three days on 12 July, so we can resurface the junction of Stafford Street and Melville Street. We will also need a further closure from 31 July to 3 August so we can complete road markings.
Weekend work
On the weekend of 8 to 9 July (7.30am to 5.30pm), we will start resurfacing the Queensferry Street and Melville Street Junction. We aim to be finished by Friday 14 July, but we have a contingency of the following weekend, 15 and 16 July, should we need it.
Queensferry Street diversion
On 8 July we will change Queensferry Street to northbound traffic only with a southbound diversion. We will reopen Queensferry Street to two-way traffic on Tuesday 18 July at around 6.30pm,
Melville Street reopening
Melville Street will reopen on Friday 21 July once we’ve installed the new traffic signals.
Signs and road markings on surrounding streets
From Monday 17 July to Thursday 11 August (9.30am to 3.30pm) we will be completing the line markings and parking signage around the area.
We will use road and pavements closures, as well as suspend parking, to help us carry out the work safely and as quickly as possible.
We will be working on these streets:
- 17 to 21 July. Melville St and Manor Place (south). Parking restrictions only.
- 24 to 28 July. Manor Place (north). Parking restrictions only (road already closed).
- 31 July to 3 August. Stafford Street. Road closure and parking restrictions.
- 7 to 11 August. Alva Street. Road closure and parking restrictions.
Burning off existing road markings creates a lot of noise and dust, and we encourage you to keep windows and doors closed while we’re working.
Randolph Place, Randolph Lane and Charlotte Lane
The work will continue here throughout the summer and into early autumn. Charlotte Lane will be closed during September once Randolph Place is back open to two-way traffic. We will keep access open to local businesses.
