Project Update - August 2023
Latest news on project activity and planned work.
Murrayfield and Roseburn
Work in the Murrayfield area is nearly finished. We have added soft landscaping around Murrayfield Avenue and new benches and planters will be installed at Old Colt Bridge.
We expect to get a definite date for installation of the eastbound bus stops and shelters at Roseburn Bridge and Wester Coates and will update you as soon as possible.
Final adjustments to the layout at the Roseburn Steet/Russell Road junction are planned in November. The work will include a crossing island on Roseburn Street and line painting.
Remedial work on the raised tables at Roseburn Place/Gardens and Wester Coates Road/Terrace is also planned for the end of September and we will notify residents ahead of this starting.
A8 and Haymarket Yards Junction - Resurfacing
In September, we will be resurfacing the A8 at the Haymarket Yards junction. We will do this in two phases.
Phase 1 will be during the first two weeks of September with alterations to traffic islands and resurfacing the bus stop outside Haymarket Train station. The bus stop will be relocated temporarily to the west of the Haymarket Yards Junction.
Phase 2 will be overnight and includes resurfacing Haymarket Yards junction and a section of the A8 up to Coates Crescent. Work will start at 7.30pm and run to 5am from Monday 18 September to Friday 22 September. We need to work overnight so that Haymarket Yards Road is open during the day for trams.
Further information is available on the website at www.edinburgh.gov.uk/ccwel and residents and businesses will be notified ahead of work starting.
Haymarket Business Support Campaign
We are working to minimise the disruption as far as possible. An open for business campaign is underway to let people know about the arrangements during the construction period and encourage them to keep visiting.
This includes:
- Social media and online advertising
- Lamppost wraps and signs on key approaches
- Banners on works site barriers
- Advertising and editorial in community magazines and newspapers
- Promoting business events and initiatives
Events
We are also planning some events and activities to encourage people to try out the sections that are now open, such as from Roseburn to Haymarket.
Free bike checks and repairs
Saturday 9 September, 10am – 1.30 pm
Dr Bike session with free bike repairs, bike marking and family competitions in the area outside the Four Points by Sheraton Hotel.
Queensferry Street and Melville Street Junction
Melville Street re-opened on 21 July after completing the Queensferry Street and Melville Street junction and installing the new traffic signals.
Randolph Place, Randolph Lane and Charlotte Lane
Work will continue here throughout the summer and into early autumn. Charlotte Lane will be closed during September once Randolph Place is back open to two-way traffic. We will keep access open to local businesses.
George Street to Picardy Place
We are nearing the end of our work on this section and are looking forward to opening it soon, once safety railings are installed in Queen Street and York Place.
Community Benefits
The Social Impact Team from Balfour Beatty led an engineering challenge at Roseburn Primary to design towers and bridges from paper with amazing results. The older pupils let their imaginations run wild as they came up with creative solutions for greening the planet.
