Free school meals in P6 and P7
If you don’t meet the conditions for school grants but you
- get the Scottish Child Payment
- have a child in primary 6 or 7
you can apply for free school meals. You can’t get school holiday payments, free milk or a school clothing grant.
You’ll need to provide proof that you get the Scottish Child Payment for the children you apply for. If you’ve lost your award letter, call Social Security Scotland free on 0800 182 2222 to ask for a copy.
Apply for free school meals for a P6 or P7 child
If you apply before 16 March 2025, free school meals will start on 17 February 2025. Awards will be valid until your child leaves primary school. This means
- P7 children will get free school meals until July 2025
- P6 children will get free school meals until July 2026.
Your award will end earlier if you stop getting the Scottish Child Payment. You must tell us if this happens.
