Free school meals, milk and school clothing grants

Families on low income can apply for school grants to help with the cost of

• lunches
• milk
• school clothing.

Check if you can get help on the Scottish Government website.

Apply for all children in your care in primary or high school. School grants are not available to children in nursery or pre-school.

If you don’t meet the conditions for school grants, but you

• get the Scottish Child Payment
• have a child in primary 6 or 7

you can apply for free school meals. Read about free school meals for P6 and P7 children.

You may be able to get other help with food, clothing and childcare costs. Read about the financial support available.

Automatic awards

If you

• get Housing Benefit or Council Tax Reduction
• meet the conditions for school grants

you may get an automatic award in June each year without the need to apply.

In some cases, we’ll need you to confirm your payment details.

If you don’t get an automatic award in June, you can apply for school grants.
