Garden waste collection

Direct Debit

By choosing to sign up for garden waste collections by Direct Debit you can register once, then relax knowing that you will never miss another registration window as long as you have sufficient funds available when payment is due.

If you choose to register for an annual Direct Debit it will automatically renew your subscription each year. The first payment will be taken within seven days of you registering and future payments will be taken on or shortly after 1 August each year. This date is the same regardless of when you first register.

When you set up a Direct Debit, you will receive several notifications, as it progresses through the banking systems. These will advise you that the Direct Debit is being set up, that it will renew annually and when the payment is taken. You do not need to respond to these.

If your billing address is outside of the Edinburgh boundary, you'll need to phone during the registration window.

Cancellations

You can cancel future Direct Debit payments any time up until 3 working days before the next payment is due to be taken. You can do this by cancelling your Direct Debit mandate through your bank. If you have access to online banking, most apps will allow you to cancel Direct Debit payments on your phone, tablet or laptop.

Alternatively, send a request with your details through our contact waste form or call 0131 608 1100 up until 15 working days before the next payment.

If you cancel within 14 days of a payment being taken you will receive a full refund. After you have received confirmation from us that your Direct Debit has been cancelled you should also inform your bank.

Direct Debit guarantee

By signing up for Direct Debit you are protected by the Direct Debit guarantee.

This guarantee is offered by all banks and building societies that accept instructions to pay Direct Debit.

If there are any changes to the amount, date or frequency of your Direct Debit, GoCardless Ltd. will notify you three working days in advance of your account being debited or as otherwise agreed. If you request GoCardless Ltd. to collect a payment, confirmation of the amount and date will be given to you at the time of the request.

If an error is made in the payment of your Direct Debit, by GoCardless Ltd. or your bank or building society, you are entitled to a full and immediate refund of the amount paid from your bank or building society.

If you receive a refund you are not entitled to, you must pay it back when GoCardless Ltd. asks you to.

You can cancel a Direct Debit at any time by simply contacting your bank or building society. Written confirmation may be required. Please also notify us.
